We, the Web kids; we, who have grown up with the Internet and on the Internet, are a generation who meet the criteria for the term in a somewhat subversive way. We did not experience an impulse from reality, but rather a metamorphosis of the reality itself. What unites us is not a common, limited cultural context, but the belief that the context is self-defined and an effect of free choice.

So…. I think this is a must read for everyone who wishes to understand the web better. Not so much the technical aspects but more the social, and cultural ones. I have only managed to get half way through at the time of writing this however… Something tells me this is bigger than most things out there.

Okay… so I have just spend the last… 8 hours in transit…? I don’t get how people find the traveling part so stressful. Just leave plenty of time between transfers, and all will be well. No need to rush, or panic, just leave enough time.

The part that I find stressful is the prep for going away. Making sure you have everything!

Making sure the doors and windows are locked.
Making sure you have all your tickets.
Making sure you are packed.
Making sure you packed enough.
etc…

Traveling is easy. I enjoy it even. I just don’t like packing.

Oh! By the way… this post is from a slightly different geographical location this time. I’m in Brussels ready and waiting for FOSDEM. Did you know? FOSDEM loves me :P. I have a shirt to prove it!

Although this may seem a little extreme, and even scary, I do see anonymous’ point. I also sympathies to a degree with their method. There seem to be few ways in which you can show your distaste for many things when it comes to the web.

Physical protests do not work, and sometimes just shouting out is not enough… To anonymous I say good on you for making a stand, however don’t over step the mark (though I know you will anyway). There is no need to grab peoples bank details when you are protesting about copyright… I don’t see how the two are related… though maybe you can explain…

So I just spent the last few minutes or so at the bus stop chatting to a lovely man in his 90’s about a number of things.

Started with card games then moved onto a friend of his who could count cards without the need for assistance. Later found out he and his friend were in Burma during the war. Unfortunately only he came back out of the two. 600 in 200 out.

Makes you think.

Glad we had that chat. It won’t be too long before you won’t be able to anymore. We’re coming to the end of another era. Get what you can out of it before it’s too late.

I think this particular quote is of note for a lot of things… and right now it makes me think of the internet… what with SOPA and PIPA along with many other similar actions. I liked what I did back when I used fuzzyfox.mozhunt.com as my main site however with my personal rebrand it didn’t quite fit… so here is the latest version of my site in all its glory.

Okay… so it is 2012 now… the world is not going to end, however I have been experimenting with new ways of blogging about little things that interest me, other than filling up my main blog with stuff that does not really warrant being on it. So time to revive the old Tumblr now that I have found out that I can do it using markdown!

How am I restarting this tumblr then? Well I have deleted every single post… (I have them backed up though), given it a new look (though temporary) as I will be creating my own theme for it. Oh, and I have given it a new url tumblr.wduyck.com
